Judaism is the oldest monotheistic religion, a religion that includes many rules and guidelines that guide the Jewish adherent to keep the right relationship with God and the right relationship with family and neighbours as well. The Torah refers to the first five books of the Jewish scriptures, or the Pentateuch. It is the sacred Jewish book of commandments given to Moses from God at the top of Mount Sinai, which contains all of the 613 mitzva that guide Jewish adherents to be faithful to the covenant. In modern society, the needs and wants of civilisation have called for a change in the way people live their lives. This alteration means that the commandments for the Jewish adherents, established in the Torah, have to be re-interpreted to suit the evolving social trends as well as the developing adherent, thus showing that Judaism is a dynamic, living and evolving religion. Judaism’s monotheistic core is highlighted in the Thirteen Articles of Faith, created by Jewish philosopher and rabbinic scholar, Moses Maimonides. They are a basic set of principles that all Jews must believe in and are the fundamentals of all Jewish beliefs. They profess the belief in one God, the importance of the covenant and the moral law. The Torah Scroll comprises of the moral law that attaches Jews to their God. Judaism integrates its traditional culture with that culture of modern society.
